CASTLE ST
Revitalizing Urban Heritage
In this comprehensive internal renovation project, we breathed new life into an 1880s workers' cottage, infusing it with modern functionality while preserving its historical charm. Our scope encompassed the entire house, with a primary focus on the kitchen and bathroom, which had a ripple effect throughout the space.
The process involved stripping down both the original cottage and a 1990s addition, reconfiguring partition walls to enhance the flow within the compact space. Extensive restoration work was undertaken, including the installation of new floors, subfloor structures, improved ventilation, and the meticulous restoration of stone elements. Additionally, we uncovered and meticulously repaired an old brick wall, preserving the cottage's authenticity. With the structural foundation solidified, we introduced highly detailed linings and bespoke joinery. A standout feature is the custom steel arched doorway connecting the hall to the bathroom, a testament to our skilled steel fabricators.
Our comprehensive joinery package extended to the kitchen, bathroom, laundry, and robe, featuring custom brass skirtings, trims, and shower-screens crafted in-house. These elements harmonized beautifully with American Oak screens and detailing, achieving both structural integrity and luxurious aesthetics. The result left our client thoroughly satisfied, a testament to our ability to blend heritage restoration with modern elegance.
