MONTACUTE
stainless and slate meets the adelaide hills
Stage 1 consisted of an addition and upgrade to an 80’s built, double brick home, in the Adelaide Hills. The concept was based around the idea of a box within a box, to allow for a bathroom and Laundry wet area, while also providing additional natural light to the main living space. Slate floors provide the link between old and new to create a cohesive whole.
To provide a large functional kitchen and a dining space for twelve plus people, internal walls from the original house were removed, and redesigned to conceal all of the vertical storage and refrigeration. This provided for around 8.5m of unbroken kitchen bench/work area, together with a custom fabricated island servery bench and storage. The clients are extremely happy with the flow of the space when entertaining.
Stage 2 centred around the removal of the existing, failed, two story verandah, and to design and install a custom, bushfire rated, steel replacement. Integrated into the design of the new steel verandah structure is a lightweight shade roof that will provide shelter to the outdoor dining table, once planted.
