RECONNECTING TO LIGHT AND GARDEN

We were approached by the clients to create a greater connection between the living areas, of their Bluestone Villa in North Adelaide, and the garden and outdoor living space at the rear of the site. To increase natural light levels and allow for an improved visual and physical connection between house and garden, large openings were created in the original structure, and new steel windows and bi-fold doors were installed. Internal remodelling included the kitchen and dining areas, and reinforcing of the roof framing to suspend a wood fuel fire above an inlaid terrazzo fire hearth. With the bifold doors open, the fire is the focal point between garden and living space. The outcome is a light filled space with finely framed views between in and out, and the ability to open and close the building as need be.
